Privacy Policy

NeedThat ("we," "us," "our") is an introduction platform designed to help adults meet each other deliberately. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses the NeedThat iOS app.

1. Who we are

NeedThat is operated by NeedThat, Inc. You can reach us via our contact form.

2. What we collect

Information you provide directly:

• Account information: your name, email address, date of birth, and any photos or audio recordings you upload.
• Profile content: bio, vault answers, voice greeting, identity and pronoun choices, the books, albums, and films you add to your profile, and any comments you write on them.
• Location: an approximate home neighborhood, captured during onboarding. We do not track your live location.
• Payment information: when you authorize a date hold, Stripe collects your payment details. We never see your full card number — only the last four digits and the expiration month/year.
• Identity verification: if you choose to verify, Stripe Identity captures your government ID and a selfie. We receive only the verification result (verified or not) and the date verified. We do not store the ID itself.

Information generated by your use of the app:

• Reactions: when you mark a candidate "not for me," reach out, or save a profile, we record that signal to improve your future introductions.
• Notes and messages exchanged with other users.
• Profile signals: when you add books, music, or films, we read that to understand your taste and help find people you'll actually want to meet.

Technical information:

• Device model, iOS version, app version, language, and timezone — for diagnostics.
• Crash logs captured by Sentry when the app encounters an unhandled error.
• Product analytics events captured by PostHog to understand which surfaces are working. Events are tied to your user_id and never to your email, phone number, or device advertising ID.

3. What we don't collect

• We do not collect or store your contacts.
• We do not access your camera roll except when you choose a photo to upload.
• We do not read messages from other apps.
• We do not place advertising trackers anywhere in the app.

4. How we use what we collect

We use your information to:

• Surface introductions and let others discover you.
• Compose your cover story — the profile other members see each morning.
• Process date holds and identity verification through Stripe.
• Send the notifications you've enabled (daily arrivals, new notes, date proposals).
• Investigate and respond to reports of harmful behavior.
• Improve the product through aggregated analytics.

We use information only to operate NeedThat. We don't sell it, rent it, or share it with advertisers.

5. Who we share it with

• Service providers under contract: Supabase (database and storage), Stripe (payments and identity), Sentry (crash reporting), PostHog (analytics). Each is required to use your data only to perform services for us.
• Other users, when you choose to share — your cover story, photos, voice greeting, and any messages you send. Your vault answer is shared only after both you and your match have explicitly unlocked it.
• Law enforcement, only when we are legally compelled or to protect someone from imminent harm.

6. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, or export the data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, use our contact form. We respond within thirty days.

You can also delete your account from inside the app at Settings → Delete account. After deletion, we keep a soft-delete record for thirty days in case you change your mind, then we purge everything.

7. Security

We protect your data with industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. If we discover a breach affecting your data, we'll notify you within seventy-two hours.

8. Children

NeedThat is for adults. You must be eighteen years old or older to use NeedThat. If we learn that someone under eighteen has created an account, we delete it immediately.

9. International users

NeedThat is operated from the United States. If you use NeedThat from outside the US, your information will be processed in the US. By using NeedThat, you consent to that transfer.

10. Changes

We'll update this policy when we change how we handle data. For material changes, we'll notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
